Thai Ethnicity

Section 7 bis of the Nationality Act B.E. 2508 (1965) grants Thai nationality to:

  1. Refugees from Kong Island province in Cambodia who migrated into Thailand before and after 15 November 1977.
  2. Displaced Burmese individuals of Thai descent who migrated before and after 9 March 1976.
  3. Displaced Laotians from the highlands.

Non-Thai Ethnicity 

Here are 9 non-Thai ethnics who may be eligible for obtaining Thai nationality:

  1. 9 hill tribes across the country (Karen, Lahu, Lisu, Akha, Mlabri, Tai Lue, Moken, Hmong, and Sakai).
  2. Highlanders who migrated before and after 3 October 1985.
  3. Former National Revolutionary Army personnel of Kuomintang. 
  4. Former Chinese nationals belonging to the Communist Party of Malaya.
  5. Haw Chinese refugees from Yunnan, China.
  6. Free Haw Chinese people.
  7. Tai Lue people.
  8. Hmong people.
  9. Displaced Burmese nationals.
  10. Fugitives from Myanmar.
  11. Vietnamese refugees.
  12. Laotian refugees.
  13. Nepalese refugees.
  14. Khmer refugees.

Rootless Person

This particular person may be eligible to Thai nationality, should they meet the following conditions:

  1. A person who is surveyed and recorded on an identification registrar under the management of the status and human rights strategy from 2007 to 2009.
  2. Born and reside in Thailand at least 10 years with a birth certificate, a certification of birthplace, or a certificate of rootless status issued by public or private sectors.
  3. Name is recorded in the civil registration.
  4. Maintain good behavior without any criminal record, except for a minor offense of negligence or a misdemeanor.
