Resumption of Thai Citizenship Application Process

Here are the timeframes of Thai citizenship resumption under the Nationality Act B.E. 2508 (1965).

Resumption for a Former Thai Citizen Whose Marriage is Dissolved under Section 23 (Total 325 Days)

  1. Applicant applies with competent officials through:
    1. An embassy or a consular (overseas domicile).
    2. The Police Commander, Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police (Bangkok domicile).
    3. The Police Commander of the Provincial Police or the Provincial Committee (other provinces).
  2. Competent officials forward the application to the Ministry of Interior
    (100 days).
  3. The application is submitted to the Minister of the Ministry of Interior for consideration (45 days).
  4. The Minister of the Ministry of Interior ratifies the announcement.
  5. The Ministry of Interior submits the ratified announcement to the Cabinet Secretary to publish in the Royal Gazette under Section 5 (30 days).
  6. The Cabinet Secretary submits the certificate of approval published in the Royal Gazette to the Ministry of Interior (75 days).
  7. The Ministry of Interior sends the approved certificate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police, the Governor or the Vice-Governor of Bangkok (30 days).

Resumption for a 20-year-old Person under Section 24 (Total 430 Days)

  1. Applicant applies with competent officials through:
    1. An embassy or a consular (overseas domicile).
    2. The Police Commander, Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police (Bangkok domicile).
    3. Police Commander of the Provincial Police or the Provincial Committee (other provinces).
  2. Competent officials forward the application to the Ministry of Interior
    (100 days).
  3. The Review Committee submits the proposal to the Minister of the Ministry of Interior for approval or denial (45 days).
  4. Approval of outcome process:
    1. The Minister of the Ministry of Interior ratifies the announcement of the Renunciation of Thai nationality.
    2. The Ministry of Interior submits the ratified announcement to the Cabinet Secretary to publish in the Royal Gazette under Section 5
      (30 days).
    3. The Cabinet Secretary submits the certificate of approval published in the Royal Gazette to the Ministry of Interior (75 days).
    4. The Ministry of Interior sends the approved certificate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police, the Governor or the Vice-Governor of Bangkok (30 days).
  5. Denial of outcome process:
    1. The Ministry of Interior submits the denied application to the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police.
    2. The Special Branch Bureau of the Royal Thai Police informs the applicant on the denied application.
