Unlike other residency visas that require yearly renewals and reporting to immigration every 90-day, the LTR visa needs renewal only every 5 years and only requires you to report to immigration once a year. You also don’t need to go through the hassle of getting a re-entry permit when you want to travel outside of Thailand; you can come and go as you please and enjoy expedited immigration service at the airport.

This visa also sets itself apart by enabling you to get a work permit and obtain a position with a Thai company. You are also exempt from the 4:1 Thai-to-foreigner employment ratio rule, making you a much more attractive candidate to prospective employers than applicants holding other types of visas.

Eligibility Requirements for the Thailand Long-Term Residency Visa

All applicants, if they are approved, must pay a 50,000 THB visa fee only once for their 10-year visa. To qualify for the LTR visa, you must meet a range of eligibility requirements, which are dependent on which category of applicant you fall into:

Highly-Skilled Professional

  • Personal annual income of a minimum of $80,000 over the last 2 years
  • In case of personal income below $80,000 but no less than $40,000 in the past two years, applicants must have a Master's degree or above in science and technology or special expertise relevant to the job assignment in Thailand
  • No minimum personal income for professionals working for Thai government agencies
  • Applicant’s current employer must be a business in any targeted industry and a higher education institution, research institution, specialized training institution, or Thai government agency
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the targeted industries, except for applicants with a PhD or above in the relevant fields of the targeted industries or applicants working for Thai government agencies
  • Health insurance with at least $50,000 of coverage, social security benefits insuring treatment in Thailand, or a deposit of at least $100,000.

Work-from-Thailand Professional

  • Personal annual income of a minimum of $80,000 over the last 2 years
  • In case of personal income below $80,000 but no less than $40,000 in the past two years, applicants must have a Master's degree or above, own intellectual property, or receive Series A funding
  • Applicant’s current employer must be: A public company on a stock exchange or a private company in operation for at least three years with combined
    • revenue of at least $150 million USD in the last three years
  • At least 5 years of cumulative work experience in the relevant fields of the current employment over the past 10 years
  • Health insurance with at least $50,000 of coverage, social security benefits insuring treatment in Thailand, or a deposit of at least $100,000.

Wealthy Global Citizen

  • At least $1 million USD in assets
  • Personal annual income of a minimum of $80,000 over the last 2 years
  • Investment of at least $500,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property
  • Health insurance with at least $50,000 of coverage, social security benefits insuring treatment in Thailand, or a deposit of at least $100,000

Wealthy Pensioner

  • Personal income of at least $80,000 USD at time of application, or at least $40,000
  • Investment of at least $250,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property

2. If approved, you will receive an endorsement letter within 20 working days. Siam Legal’s Visa Team will then assist you with the visa application and payment processes through your local embassy/consulate or at immigration in Thailand.

3. If the application is submitted correctly within 60 days of the issuance of the endorsement letter, you can then collect your visa. From there, if applicable, you can begin the process of obtaining a work permit.
