Eligibility Requirements for the Thailand Long-Term Resident Visa

All approved applicants are required to pay a one-time visa fee of 50,000 THB for the 10-year Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa. Eligibility criteria vary depending on the applicant’s category, with specific income, investment, employment, and insurance requirements tailored to each group. Understanding these requirements is essential to determine which category you qualify for and to prepare a successful application.

Highly-Skilled Professional

  • Professionals or experts working in targeted industries, higher education, research, specialised training institutions, or Thai government agencies
  • Must currently work for a Thai company holding a valid Non-Immigrant "B" visa and work permit
  • Personal income of at least USD 80,000 per year over the past two years
  • If income is between USD 40,000 and USD 80,000, must hold a Master's degree or above in science, technology, or have special expertise relevant to Thailand
  • No minimum income requirement if working for Thai government agencies
  • No minimum work experience requirement (previously 5 years)
  • Employer must be in targeted industries or relevant institutions
  • Health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 in medical expenses in Thailand, or social security benefits covering treatment in Thailand, or deposits of at least USD 100,000 held for 12+ months

Work-from-Thailand Professional

  • Personal income of at least USD 80,000 per year over the past two years
  • If income is between USD 40,000 and USD 80,000, must have a Master's degree or higher, own intellectual property, or have received Series A funding
  • Currently employed by a company listed on a stock exchange or a private company operating for at least 3 years with total revenues of at least USD 50 million in the last three years
  • At least 5 years of cumulative work experience in the relevant fields of the current employment over the past 10 years
  • Health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 in medical expenses in Thailand, or social security benefits covering treatment in Thailand, or deposits of at least USD 100,000 held for 12+ months

Wealthy Pensioner

  • Age 50 or older and retired status
  • Pension and/or regular personal income of at least USD 80,000 per year at application
  • If income is between USD 40,000 and USD 80,000 per year, must invest at least USD 250,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property
  • Investment of at least USD 250,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property
  • Health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 in medical expenses in Thailand, or social security benefits covering treatment in Thailand, or deposits of at least USD 100,000 held for 12+ months
  • No employment requirements

Wealthy Global Citizen

  • At least $1 million USD in assets
  • Personal annual income of a minimum of $80,000 over the last 2 years
  • Investment of at least $500,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property
  • Health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 in medical expenses in Thailand, or social security benefits covering treatment in Thailand, or deposits of at least USD 100,000 held for 12+ months
  • No employment requirements
