K1 Visa Social Security Card Thailand

Ever wonder why the US government requires immigrants to secure a social security card? Did you know that the social security card helps the US government prevent tax evasion? Read on to discover more about the social security card submission after your K1 Visa application from Thailand.

Your American fiancee will have a social security card in his possession, try to take a look at it. You will notice that his name and your social security number are on it. The Social Security Number, or SSN, is a number assigned to you by the US Government. US schools, banks, and government agencies use it for identification. But more importantly, it is used by the US Government to trace how much income every US resident receives as well as any benefits received. This helps prevent US residents from evading taxes and allows the US government to ensure that no immigrant becomes a burden on the government benefit system. The Thai fiance is allowed to submit an application for a social security card immediately upon her arrival in the US.

Another option to apply for a social security card is when you submit Form DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration to the designated U.S. Embassy ensure to answer “yes” in Questions 33a and 33b on Form DS-230. The embassy will submit the information in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If the applicant is consequently admitted into the U.S., the DHS will forward the collected information to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the latter will send your Social Security Card to your mailing address in the U.S.

The Thai K1 Visa applicant may also submit an application for a social security card to the Social Security Office in the US. You should wait for at least 10 days after arrival in U.S. before filing the application because your information will not be available in the DHS data system for verification until then. Make sure you bring the completed SS-5 form, application of social security card, with you, as well as two original documents proving your identity, immigration status, age, and eligibility to work. After all the documents are verified, the social security card and the number will be mailed to your US mailing address.
