Visiting Thailand : No Visa

The beautiful country of Thailand has become a popular destination for many groups of people—tourists, retirees, businessmen, ESL students, and even western bachelors looking for the perfect wife! Thailand is blessed with a warm, balmy climate, lovely beaches, and picturesque mountain areas. Its culture which is rooted in the Buddhist religion is richly exotic and unique. It does not take much to lure visitor to this “Land of Smiles”.

Aside from what the country has to offer, Thailand also has a very visitor-friendly visa policy. Under the Visa Exemption Rule (VER) or Visa Exemption Scheme implemented by the Thai Immigration, visitors from certain nations are allowed to enter Thailand without the need for a visa. Foreigners who are granted this privilege can stay in Thailand strictly as tourists, for a period not exceeding 30 days with a return ticket as the basic requirement. In some cases a Thai immigration may ask a visitor to present proof of having sufficient funds to finance the visit in the form of cash. This means that an individual must be in possession of 10,000 BHT if he or she is alone or 20,000 if the visitors are entering the country as a family.

A 30-day visa is stamped on the passport by an Immigration officer upon the visitor’s arrival at the airport. A visitor entering the country by land via the border will only be granted a 15-day stay, except Malaysians who are granted 30 days.
