Canadian Family Member Visa

A Canada Family Member Visa Thailand is a settlement visa for Thai national who has Canadian citizen or a permanent resident may sponsor relatives or family members from another country and bring them on a under the Family Class by virtue of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and associated Regulations.

The requirements for this type of visa are minimal. Approval of a sponsorship only depends on the relationship between the applicant and the sponsor and the sponsor’s ability to financially support the applicant for a limited period.

A Canada Family Member Visa Thailand is the first step to becoming a permanent resident, a status which once granted, will allow the visa applicants to enjoy many of the rights exercised by Canadian residents. After completing the maximum residency of 3 years, the immigrant becomes eligible for Canadian citizenship.

To be able to sponsor your relative, you must:

• Be over the age of 18 and must be related to the applicant
• Commit to take care of the relative’s financial needs for 3-10 years
• Prove that you have the financial capability by meeting income requirements.
• Sign a mutual agreement with your sponsored relative
• This requirement is not applicable in Quebec.*

*Elderly relatives are exempt from making this commitment.

Relatives and family members living abroad who qualify for sponsorship include:

• Spouse, common-law or conjugal partner of sponsor
• Parents and grandparents
• Brother or sister, grandchild, niece or nephew who is under the age of 18, orphaned and unmarried
• Dependent children including adopted children who are under the age of 22
• Children under the age of 18 that the sponsor will be adopting
• Any other relative if the sponsor has none of the above relatives

To be able to apply for the type of visa, you must:

• Have no criminal record
• Be neither a public nor security threat to Canada
• Be in good physical health

The application process requires that citizen or permanent resident of Canada apply and be approved as sponsor before the eligible relative(s) or the visa applicant apply for this type of visa.

STEP 1: Download and print an application kit from the Canada Immigration and Citizenship website (www.cic.gc.ca).

STEP 2: Collect all the required documents in the document checklist and complete the application form. Then send the visa applicant the immigration forms required to be filled out by them. Once the mentioned immigration forms are completed, the visa applicant must send them back to the sponsor along with the supporting documents.

STEP 3: Pay the fee and keep the receipt for future reference.

STEP 4: Mail all the necessary documents and the completed application forms to the Case Processing Centre of Citizenship and Immigration Canada in Mississauga, Ontario.

Step 5: Arrive in Canada; the sponsored relative must present their Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and permanent resident visa to a Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) officer.  The relative will have to answer some of the officer’s questions to verify the information on their application.  If everything is in order, the relative will be allowed to enter the country as a permanent resident. The resident card will then be sent to the relative’s address in Canada.
