Thailand remains as one of the most marriage-friendly destinations because the laws concerning marriage in this country is pretty flexible. Foreigners who intend to get married in Thailand should obtain their Affirmation of Freedom to Marry document from Embassy in Thailand, along with a valid passport and Divorce Certificate, if applicable. Some Embassies may request a Single Certificate from your home district before giving you your Affirmation of Freedom to Marry document. Your Thai fiancé/e will be required to submit copies of her National ID card, House Registration, and when applicable, Divorce and Change of Name Certificates. Once the Marriage Certificate is signed at the local district office (Amphur), and translated into English, it is recognized around the world.
In Thailand, having a wedding ceremony does not automatically mean that it is a lawful marriage, as he wedding ceremony and the legal marriage registration are considered as distinct from each other in Thailand. Although you may choose to just hold a wedding ceremony, it is better to register your marriage legally at the district office so that you may also be able to ensure security when it is time to address some related legal matters such as purchasing Property and acquiring visas.
